Your small contribution helps us make a difference for animals and give them a voice.
Guided by the humane ethic, it is the MISSION of the Montreal SPCA to:
- protect animals against negligence, abuse, and exploitation;
- represent their interests and ensure their well-being;
- raise public awareness and help develop compassion for all living beings.
The SPCA has come a long way since its beginnings in 1869. Our Society has grown with the rest of the humane movement – speaking on behalf of animals wherever there is ignorance, cruelty, exploitation, or neglect.
The Canadian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (now fondly known as Montreal’s SPCA) was the first animal welfare organisation in Canada, founded in Montreal in 1869 by a group of prominent citizens. It is not known under whose influence the society was formed, but its history acknowledges assistance from societies in Paris, England, and the United States.
At the Montreal SPCA, the volunteers’ contributions are very important for the operations of the shelter. Their support and devotion are crucial in helping the SPCA accomplish its mission. They provide the additional resources necessary for us to continue to expand our services, which exceed the traditional services offered by an animal shelter.
Becoming an SPCA-Montreal member
A Montreal SPCA member may attend Annual General Meetings and vote to elect members of the Board, as well as appoint auditors and approve our financial statements. Members are also entitled to vote on all resolutions presented at the meetings.

When I was younger my mother made sure art was part of my life very early on. My parents were dancers and liked to tell people that they were pregnant with me during an advanced ballroom dancing examination. My older sisters danced and likewise I ended up dancing as...
You want a website redesign, and that usually means updating the look of your website so it can reflect a new colour scheme or a logo update that’s been newly implemented. This is all fine and dandy, but it can lead to a series of redesign mistakes that will cost you users if they are not remedied.
